A lovely example of stylistic over-reaching: the space age form of the body contradicts the archaic turning mechanism of the faceted drum display.  The phase 1 belongs to a period of technological optimism when space travel was still nervously calculated by slide-rule. 

The design was developed from a set of  preliminary concepts developed by Reinhold Weiss in 1965.
